A wonderful 1960s ceramic tiled table by Dennis Townsend for Heals London
A wonderful 1960s ceramic tiled coffee table by Dennis Townsend, made up of 28 unique tiles that create a wonderful underwater fish design, mounted on a gilt metal base with floating top design. Signed in the lower right hand corner tile with Iden Pottery triangle with initials DT - see attached photo
Dennis Townsend was one of the most respected potters from the Rye Pottery, who went on to start Iden Pottery in 1959. The business flourished quickly and by 1968 there was a large export side and a buoyant home market with his pieces being stocked by Heals and Harrods in London.
According to Rye Pottery only a very small number of tables were made and this one would have been for either Harrods or Heals in London in the mid to late 60s'
